I was invited to a free thinkers discussion group this past weekend. We met at a coffee shop, watched a Discovery movie about “Ardi,” the oldest skeleton found, then discussed the movie and any other topic that came up. Most people were atheists except for one agnostic and me. They didn’t hold it against me. The discussion was free and open, more of an exchange of ideas than debate. I was impressed with how well informed everyone was, even about religion. Many of them knew the Bible and Christian doctrine better than most Christians. They also understood the basics of other religions and were well read on the evening’s main topic. What struck me the most, though, was how free the conversation was. No idea was rejected, everyone freely contributed without fear of saying something wrong, and we all came away with increased knowledge and perspective. No one tried to convince anyone of a certain viewpoint, but instead we all asked each other probing questions. Who wouldn’t want to join a group like this?

I'm glad you had fun with the freethinkers! I enjoy it whenever I'm able to go to their meetups, too.

As to "Iggy", who posts as KCFreethinker on the Bill Tammeus blog, he repeatedly tells believers to SHUT UP AND DIE.
Just run a search and you will see what I mean.
The "Free"thinkers mean Free FOR THEM, NOT FOR YOU, no doubt about it.
Just look at some of his posts about "eating Christian brains" and some of the other names he calls believers.
The poor guy was raised in the Soviet Union when it was still an atheistic state and he is really messed up by it.
Their other "leader" Cole Morgan is pretty vicious too. Demands that blievers SHUT UP are regular with him.
Don't be fooled by their act.

Hi, Dagney. Glad to hear that you had such a good experience at the meetup! I'm a member, but due to disabilities haven't been able to attend an actual meeting, though hope to eventually. I do try to follow the email posts I receive from them, though. Anyway, thanks for your insightful & openminded post. Sorry to see some very narrow-minded people have made mean-spirited comments; people are certainly entitled to their opinions about individuals, but a few comments were rather extreme.

But if you go to the Bill Tammeus blog you can find DOZENS of references where Cole calls believers Psychotic, and tells them to crawl under a rock and SHUT UP.
And dozens of references where Iggy calls believers DELUSIONAL and tells believers to SHUT UP AND DIE.
Do you think they are being extreme too?
Of course don't take my word for it. This kind of thing has been going on for TWO YEARS at the Bill Tammeus blog.
But strangely, although they try to trash believers at Bill's Blog, they have NO PLACE ON THEIR OWN Kansas City Freethinkers site for comments!
